Norwich Market: The The City’s Best Street Food is Hiding in Plain Sight!

ree

If you’re visiting Norwich and getting hungry, Norwich Market belongs at the top of your list. Tucked into the heart of our historic city, just off Gentleman’s Walk, it's well worth a visit on any day out! With striped awnings and stalls packed into tight rows, this open-air market is a bit chaotic, a bit old-school, and absolutely worth exploring if you’re into food with flavour and soul. One of the market’s biggest draws is its incredible variety of street food, with stalls run by passionate local cooks who know how to feed a crowd — and keep them coming back.

Here are just a few must-try favourites:

🍜 Buns, Falafel & Chilean Heat

Start with Bun Box. Hidden in one of the corners, this little stall serves up steamed bao buns stuffed with things like Korean fried chicken or sticky mushrooms. Add house pickles, grab a napkin, and you’re good.

A few stalls over, Falafel & Friends are doing meat-free street food that’ll satisfy even the most committed carnivore. Go for the falafel wrap with pickled veg, garlic sauce and chilli — it’s a winner.

Craving something different? Cocina Mia brings proper Chilean comfort food to the market. Their empanadas are golden and flaky, packed with spicy beef or veggie fillings. Keep an eye out for their changing specials.

🥩 Classic Market Food Done Right

In the mood for a proper lunch?

Lucy’s Fish & Chips is the go-to for traditional British fish and chips — crispy batter, fluffy chips and generous portions. They’ve even got vegan and gluten-free options.

Henry’s Hog Roast is exactly what it says on the tin: thick pork rolls, crunchy crackling, stuffing, and lashings of apple sauce. It’s messy and brilliant.

Or head to China Wok if you want quick, hot Chinese takeaway-style eats. Think salt and pepper chicken, big trays of noodles, and proper portion sizes.

☕ Coffee, Ice Cream & a Bit of Cheese

After all that, make your way to Little Red Roaster for a flat white or cold brew. It’s one of the best coffee spots in the market and perfect for a quick recharge.

Need something sweet? Lakenham Creamery serves up locally made Norfolk ice cream — proper stuff, not soft serve. Go for the classics or try one of the seasonal flavours.

Before you go, swing by The Cheeseman and pick up something for later. This stall has everything from local cheddars to creamy French brie, plus crackers and chutneys to go with it.
